About Satellite 8

Welcome

Hi, and welcome to the Satellite 8 website.

Thanks to enforced COVID-19 delays, we had a four-year gap between Satellites 6 and 7, but now they are coming along like proverbial buses, with only a year between Satellite 7 and Satellite 8. Getting another event up-and-running in just a year is proving challenging. However, lack of time will not mean lack of quality, with our main Guests-of-Honour already in place – multiple award-winning author Christopher Priest and local fan legend Michelle "Cuddles" Drayton-Harrold.

We shall be running the convention along similar lines to our previous events, with a varied programme living up to the Satellite Convention motto: Science Fiction, Science Fact, Science Fun! Our venue will again be the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow. We’ll be hosting a Dealers’ Room and Art Show, as well as a Fan Bar to give you all a convivial place to sit and relax with friends, old and new.

Our Spacecraft and Planet of Honour

Our logo this time features a space plane – the Satellite Orbital Deployment And Landing (vehicle) aka SODAL! Given that Satellite will be taking a back seat for a year or two to let the Glasgow 2024 Worldcon take centre stage, it seemed appropriate to return to Earth, temporarily at least, for some well-earned R&R (rum and raisin? - Ed). And what a wealth of speculative fiction there is featuring our home planet, not to mention new scientific understanding of our world and how humankind affects it.
